Kids Who Care

Lily's Mitzvah ProjectMy name is Lily and next year, when I turn 13 years old, I will also be celebrating my Bat Mitzvah. I have already begun to prepare for this momentous event, attending Hebrew and Sunday School and meeting with our Rabbi and Cantor. This ceremony signifies the beginning of my moral and religious responsibility.

As part of this life changing event, I have decided that my Mitzvah project will be to raise funds for ARDS Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated towards offering information, raising awareness, providing support, and raising funds for medical research of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Specifically, my objective is that the proceeds from any donations as a part of my Mitzvah Project will be directed to ARDS Foundation's Children's programs.

Lily raised almost $200.00 for her Bat Mitzvah Project during the Hike for Lung Health!

In the past, I have created personalized 'get well' or 'thinking of you' cards to children who have been hospitalized with ARDS or those who have a parent or other relative in the hospital due to ARDS. I have also made blankets for for ARDS survivors who are still struggling with their recovery. In addition, I attend ARDS Foundation's monthly meetings and volunteer my time stuffing envelopes and assisting at charity events.

ARDS is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. My mother, when she was only 33 years old, suddenly got sick. Eventually, she went to the hospital and almost immediately, had to be put on a ventilator, to help her breathe. She was in a coma for four weeks, on life support for eight weeks, and in the hospital for nine weeks. She almost did not survive. Years later, she co-founded ARDS Foundation. She said that she did that because if she did nothing, and someone she loved was diagnosed with ARDS, she would be unable to live with herself.

If you would like to support my efforts and make a donation, you can do so via the website. Donations can be made online with a credit card, or via the US mail by check at 3100 Dundee, Suite 402, Northbrook, IL 60062.

Thank you in advance for your support and I hope to make a difference for all of the children who have been, or will be, touched by ARDS.

Lily
